Our take on the MXFitness MX55 Evolution Series Adjustable Dumbbells

The MX55 Evolution is a dial-adjustable dumbbell pair that goes from 10 to 55 lbs per hand in 5 lb steps. Plates weigh about 2.5 lbs each, and the nylon-reinforced locking tabs hold the selected weight with a positive lock. It comes in two grip versions: a 36 mm contoured rubber grip (CH) and a 29 mm machined knurled metal grip (KH). The MX55 also allows offset loading, so one end can be heavier than the other for rehab and unbalanced training. The best new price is $449 at mxfitnesssupply.com as of November 4, 2026, with only one store listing it new.

Best forHome lifters who want one pair instead of a rackRehab and injury recovery with offset loadingSmall spaces where a full dumbbell set won't fitLifters who prefer a knurled metal grip (KH)
Pros
  • Covers 10–55 lbs per dumbbell in 5 lb jumps
  • Dial change is fast between sets
  • Offset loading supports rehab and unbalanced work
  • Two grip options: rubber or knurled metal
  • Positive lock system holds plates securely
Cons
  • 5 lb steps are coarse for small lifts
  • Offset loading is a niche feature most lifters won't use
  • Long handle and wide plates can limit range of motion
  • Only one store lists it new, so price competition is thin
  • $449 is a big outlay versus a basic adjustable set

Questions and answers

Is the MX55 Evolution worth $449?
At $449 it costs more than most dial dumbbells but replaces a full 10–55 lb rack. It makes sense if you need the offset-loading feature or the knurled KH grip. If you only need standard balanced dumbbells, cheaper dial sets do the same job.
What is the difference between the CH and KH versions?
The CH has a 36 mm contoured rubber grip. The KH has a 29 mm machined knurled metal grip that feels closer to a barbell and holds better with sweaty hands. Pick KH for heavy pressing, CH for comfort.
How much weight can each dumbbell hold?
Each dumbbell adjusts from 10 to 55 lbs in 5 lb increments, using plates of about 2.5 lbs each. The pair gives you up to 110 lbs total.
What is offset weight training good for?
Offset loading puts more weight on one end of the dumbbell, which challenges stability and grip. It is mainly used in injury recovery and rehab programs. Most general lifters will leave it balanced.
What comes in the box?
You get the adjustable dumbbell handles with their plate stacks and the dial mechanism. The listing does not specify a stand or storage tray, so check before buying if you need one.
When is the price lowest?
Only one store lists it new, so discounts are rare. Watch for holiday sales and manufacturer promotions; the current best is $449 at mxfitnesssupply.com as of November 4, 2026.
Where is the MXFitness MX55 Evolution Series Adjustable Dumbbells cheapest?
At mxfitnesssupply.com, for $449.00, as of our latest check.
