Pros

  • Value pack brings the per-ball price under $3
  • Smooth aran twist shows stitch definition well
  • Works for both knit and crochet at 4.5 mm
Cons

Questions and answers

Is the Paintbox Cotton Aran pack worth it?
At $14.84 for five balls at LoveCrafts as of November 4, 2026, it is about $2.97 a ball, cheap for 100% cotton aran. It suits baby clothes and summer garments where breathability matters more than warmth.
How many balls do I need for a sweater?
Each ball is about 93 yards, so a women's aran sweater at roughly 1,000 to 1,200 yards needs about 11 to 13 balls, or two to three packs. Buy all packs at once so the dye lot matches.
What size needles and hook does it use?
The label gauge is 20 stitches and 24 rows to 4 inches on US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, and a G (4.5 mm) hook for crochet. Swatch first, since cotton behaves differently from wool.
Can I machine wash items made with it?
Yes. Wash gently at 30°C (65°F to 85°F) and dry flat to keep shape. Cotton can stretch when wet, so avoid hanging garments.
Is it good for babies?
Yes. It is 100% cotton, breathable and machine washable, which suits baby garments. It is not as warm as wool, so layer it for cold weather.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price was $14.84 at LoveCrafts as of November 4, 2026, with only one store listing it. Cotton aran packs often drop during seasonal yarn sales, so check the price history before buying several.
Where is the Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran 5 Ball Value Pack Candyfloss Pink (650) cheapest?
At LoveCrafts, for $14.84, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran 5 Ball Value Pack Candyfloss Pink (650)?
