Questions and answers

Do I need a license to use the Radtel RN15?
Yes. It transmits on GMRS frequencies, which require an FCC GMRS license in the US. The license covers your immediate family and lasts ten years.
Is the 5,000-mile range real?
No. That figure assumes ideal conditions such as repeater or satellite links. Handheld-to-handheld GMRS range is typically a few miles, less in dense terrain or buildings.
Can I program it from my phone?
Yes. The RN15 supports Bluetooth app programming, so you can set channels and tones without a cable or keypad menus.
What comes in the box?
The radio, a charger and a power adapter. Check the listing for whether a belt clip or antenna is included before ordering.
Is it worth $139?
It is priced at the top of the handheld GMRS class, so the GPS, compass and Bluetooth programming need to matter to you. If you only need voice, a simpler GMRS radio costs less.
How does it compare with a Baofeng GMRS radio?
The RN15 adds IP67 sealing, USB-C, Bluetooth programming and GPS over basic Baofeng GMRS models. Those extras are what you pay the higher price for.
