Is this kit good for a complete beginner?

Yes. It is sold as a beginner set and includes whittling knives, detail knives and chisels, so you can start with simple cuts and work up. Budget time to strop or hone the blades first.

The 25-piece kit, a thick leather storage bag, the knives, chisels and a green carving stone. The listing does not break down every piece by name.

Do I need a mallet for the chisels?

For light hand pressure, no. For harder woods or deeper cuts, a wooden or rubber mallet helps, and none is included.

How does it compare with a plain whittling knife set?

It adds 3 chisels and gouges plus a sharpening stone, so it suits people who want to try relief and chisel work, not just carving small figures.

Is $62.99 a good price?

It is the best new price across the two stores listing it as of November 5, 2026. Compare against smaller knife-only sets if you don't need the chisels.

How big is the tool roll?

The kit measures about 9 × 4 × 7 inches and weighs 4.39 lb packed, so it fits in a drawer or toolbox.

Our take on the SakerNeo 25-Piece Wood Carving Kit

A 25-piece starter carving set with 8 whittling knives, 5 detail knives, 3 chisels and gouges, stainless steel bevel-edge blades and walnut handles, packed in a leather tool roll. It covers more ground than a plain knife set, so a beginner can try flat work, detail cuts and chisel work without buying separate tools. The best new price is $62.99 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, with two stores listing it new.
