Our take on the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Lens

The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM is Sony's pro-grade wide-angle zoom for full-frame E-mount cameras, covering 16-35mm at a constant f/2.8. It uses two XA elements, three aspherical elements and a direct drive SSM motor for fast, quiet autofocus, with dust and moisture sealing and a clickable aperture ring. At $1,664 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, it sits well below its typical new price near $2,000, making this a strong moment to buy.

Questions and answers

Is the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM worth it?
For full-frame Sony shooters who need a fast, sharp wide zoom, yes. It is one of the best in its class, but the f/4 version is lighter and cheaper if you rarely shoot wide open.
How does it compare with the Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA?
The f/2.8 GM is sharper, faster and better sealed, but heavier and more expensive. The f/4 is a good choice for travel and landscape on a budget.
Does it work on APS-C Sony cameras?
Yes, on E-mount APS-C bodies it gives a 24-52.5mm equivalent field of view. It is designed for full frame, so it is large for APS-C bodies.
Does it have image stabilization?
No, the lens has no optical stabilization. Stabilization comes from the camera body's IBIS on compatible Sony bodies.
What is in the box?
The lens, front and rear caps, a lens hood and a soft case. A tripod collar is not included.
When is it cheapest?
Prices dip during major sales events and when a successor is rumored. At $1,664 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, it is well below its usual new price.
