Is the original 24-70mm F2.8 GM still worth buying?

Yes if you want a fast standard zoom at a lower price than the GM II. The GM II is lighter and sharper, but this lens still delivers strong image quality and fast autofocus.

How does it compare with the 24-70mm F2.8 GM II?

The GM II is noticeably lighter and smaller and improves edge sharpness and close focus. This original version costs less and remains a capable workhorse.

Does it have image stabilization?

No. It has no optical stabilization, so you rely on the in-body stabilization of your Sony camera.

What is the minimum focus distance?

About 1.25 ft (0.38 m) across the range, with a maximum magnification of 0.24x.

The best new price is $1,498 at Adorama as of November 7, 2026. Prices on this lens tend to dip during major sales events and when the GM II is promoted.
