Is the Sony FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS worth it?

For paid sports and wildlife work where f/2.8 and fast focus matter, yes. For occasional telephoto use, a 100-400mm zoom costs far less and covers more framing.

Does it work with Sony teleconverters?

Yes, it accepts Sony's 1.4x and 2x E-mount teleconverters, giving 560mm f/4 and 800mm f/5.6. Autofocus still works, though light loss and some sharpness drop are expected.

It weighs about 2.9 kg (6.4 lb) without the hood, light for a 400mm f/2.8 but still a tripod or monopod lens for long sessions.

Yes. It has built-in Optical SteadyShot, and on bodies with in-body stabilization the two work together.

The lens, a lens hood, a tripod collar, front and rear caps, and a soft case. A drop-in filter holder is included for 40.5mm filters.
