Our take on the Williston Forge Bed Frame with Storage Headboard, Charging Station and LED Lights

The Williston Forge Queen bed frame is a wood platform bed with a storage headboard, built-in charging station and LED lights. It ships as frame only, so you add your own mattress. The headboard shelves and under-bed drawers add storage that most metal platform beds lack. Its current best price is $429 at Wayfair as of November 3.

Best forRenters and small bedrooms that need hidden storageShoppers who want USB charging at the bedsideBuyers who want a wood platform bed without a box spring
Pros
  • Storage headboard with shelves keeps a phone, lamp and book off the nightstand
  • Built-in charging station puts USB ports within reach of the pillow
  • Under-bed drawers use space a plain platform frame wastes
  • Wood frame and headboard give a warmer look than metal
  • LED headboard lighting works as a reading light without a lamp
Cons
  • Frame only: mattress and bedding cost extra
  • Queen drawers and a headboard make a bulky footprint
  • Assembly of drawers, wiring and lights takes time
  • LED and charging parts are the first things to fail on beds like this
  • No box spring needed, but a very thick mattress may sit high

Questions and answers

Is the Williston Forge bed frame worth it?
If you need storage and bedside charging in a small room, it bundles both for less than buying a bed, nightstand and drawers separately. If you only want a simple platform frame, a plain wood or metal frame costs less.
Does it include a mattress?
No. It is frame only, so budget for a queen mattress and bedding on top of the $429 at Wayfair as of November 3.
Do I need a box spring?
No. It is a platform-style wood frame with slats, so a queen mattress sits directly on the frame.
What mattress thickness works best?
A mattress around 8 to 12 inches keeps the headboard shelves and lights at a comfortable height. A very thick pillow-top may cover part of the headboard.
What is in the box?
The frame, headboard with shelves, drawer boxes, LED light strip and charging hardware, plus the tools and instructions for assembly.
When is it cheapest?
Wayfair discounts bed frames most around Black Friday, Presidents' Day and end-of-season clearance. Watch the price history for a drop below the recent range before buying.
