Our take on the Casa Home Living 18kW Electric Tankless Water Heater

The Casa Home Living InstaE 18 is an 18 kW electric tankless water heater that mounts on a wall and needs a dedicated 240 V hardwired circuit. It claims 98% efficiency, a 4.3 GPM flow rate and a maximum output temperature of 140°F, with no smart-home features. Its only recorded price is $458.99, so there is no recent range to compare against yet. At 18 kW it suits a single point of use or a small home in a warm climate, not a whole house in cold weather.

Best forA single bathroom or kitchen point of useSmall homes and cabins in mild climatesReplacing a failing tank heater where panel capacity allowsBuyers who want no standby tank losses
Pros
  • 98% rated efficiency, so almost all power goes into heating water
  • Tankless design frees floor space and mounts on a wall at 3.9" deep
  • 4.3 GPM supports one shower or two low-flow fixtures at once
  • No standby heat loss from a storage tank
  • 140°F maximum output is adequate for most household use
Cons
  • 18 kW needs a large dedicated 240 V circuit, often a panel upgrade
  • Output temperature drops as flow rises, so cold inlet water cuts GPM
  • No smart-home compatibility or app control
  • Hardwiring means professional installation, adding to total cost
  • Not enough power for a whole house in cold climates

Questions and answers

Is 18 kW enough for a whole house?
Usually not in cold climates. At 18 kW the unit delivers about 4.3 GPM only with mild inlet water; a cold inlet cuts usable flow sharply. It fits one or two fixtures, not simultaneous whole-house demand.
What wiring does it need?
A dedicated 240 V circuit sized for 18 kW, which draws about 75 amps at full power. That typically means 8 AWG or heavier conductors and a breaker to match, so check your panel capacity before buying.
How does it compare with a tank heater?
It saves space and avoids standby losses, but the install cost is higher and hot water is limited by flow rate. A tank heater keeps a reserve but reheats slowly and loses heat while idle.
What is in the box?
The unit itself, listed as the included component. Mounting hardware, a pressure relief valve and fittings are not stated, so plan to buy those separately.
When is the price lowest?
The only recorded price is $458.99, logged on 2026-11-01, so there is no lower point to point to yet. Watch for seasonal sales and compare against other 18 kW units before buying.
Can it run a shower and a sink at once?
In mild inlet conditions, possibly, but flow is shared. Running a shower and a sink together will lower the temperature at both, so keep simultaneous use modest.
