Our take on the Costway Electric Bass Guitar with Pick, Amp, Cord, Bag and Strap

This is a full starter bass kit: a 4-string solid-body electric bass with two pickups, plus a pick, a small amp, a cord, a gig bag and a strap. The body is paulownia, a light wood, with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard and 20 frets. At $107.99 at Best Buy as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, and only two stores list it new.

Best forFirst-time bass players who want everything in one boxBudget buyers who need an amp includedPractice at home or in a dorm roomA gift for a teen starting on bass
Pros
  • Complete kit: bass, amp, cable, bag, strap and pick
  • Light paulownia body is easy to hold for long practice
  • Two pickups give more tonal options than a single-pickup starter bass
  • Low entry price at $107.99
  • 20 frets and a standard 4-string layout
Cons
  • Included amp is small and basic
  • Paulownia is soft and dents more easily than alder or ash
  • Setup out of the box is often rough; may need a truss rod tweak
  • No tuner or stand in the box
  • Few stores stock it, so price checks are limited

Questions and answers

Is this a good bass for a beginner?
Yes, as a first bass. It has a standard 4-string layout, 20 frets and two pickups, and the kit covers amp, cable, bag and strap. Expect to adjust the action and maybe replace the strings.
What comes in the box?
The bass, a pick, a small amplifier, an instrument cable, a gig bag and a strap. No tuner, stand or extra strings are included.
Is the included amp loud enough for band practice?
No. It is a small practice amp suited to bedroom playing. For playing with drums or a band you will need a larger amp.
How does it compare with a Squier or Ibanez starter bass?
Those cost more but use better hardware and usually arrive with a cleaner setup. This kit wins on price and on including an amp and bag.
Is the body heavy?
No. Paulownia is one of the lighter body woods, so it is easier on the shoulder than many budget basses, but it dents more easily.
When is the best time to buy it?
At $107.99 at Best Buy as of November 4, 2026, it is already near the bottom of its recent range. Holiday sales are the other window to watch.
