Our take on the Craftsman 42 in. Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper

The Craftsman 42 in. Heavy Duty is a tow-behind lawn sweeper that hitches to a riding mower or ATV and pulls grass clippings, leaves and pine needles off the lawn into a hopper bag. Its 42-inch sweeping path and 10-inch reinforced brushes cover ground quickly, and a single lever sets brush height without tools. The brushes lift high for transport and the flow-through bag is designed to fill evenly. At $399.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range, so it is not a bargain moment.

Questions and answers

Is the Craftsman 42 in. sweeper worth it?: It makes sense if you have a large lawn, a riding mower or ATV to tow it, and a heavy fall leaf load. On small lots or light debris, a rake or blower costs far less.
What can tow this lawn sweeper?: A riding mower, garden tractor or ATV with a hitch pin works. It is not designed to be pushed by hand.
Does it work on wet leaves?: Poorly. Wet or matted debris clogs the brushes and bag, so sweep after the lawn dries.
How often do I empty the bag?: Frequently in heavy leaf fall; the flow-through bag fills fast when debris is thick. Plan on several dumps per pass on a big yard.
When is the price lowest?: Lawn sweepers usually discount in late fall and over winter, outside peak leaf season. At $399.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is at the high end of its range.
Where is the Craftsman 42 in. Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper cheapest?: At Amazon, for $399.99, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Craftsman 42 in. Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper?: 2 stores we checked sell it, including Lowe's, Amazon.
