Our take on the Pitbull Strings Mutant Series 5-String 45-130 Light Extra Long Bass Guitar Strings

Pitbull Mutant Series 5-String bass strings are a light-gauge set, 45-130, with roundwound construction and extra-long scale length. The light top end keeps bends and fingerstyle play easy, while the 130 low B gives the fifth string some heft. At $51.87 at Pitbull Strings as of November 7, 2026, this is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Questions and answers

What bass scale length do these fit?
They are extra-long scale, aimed at 35-inch and longer basses. Measure your bass before buying, since a long-scale 34-inch bass may leave excess string at the tuners.
Is 45-130 light or heavy for a 5-string?
It is on the light side. The 45-100 top four strings feel slinky, and the 130 B is lighter than the 135 or 145 B many 5-string sets use.
Are these strings roundwound?
Yes. Roundwound winding gives a bright, growly tone with finger noise, and it is the most common choice for rock, funk and slap.
Is $51.87 a good price?
It is the only new price listed as of November 7, 2026, so there is nothing to compare it to. Five-string sets commonly run $30 to $60, so it sits in the normal range.
How often should I change them?
Roundwounds typically lose their brightness after a few weeks of regular playing. Change them when slap tone dulls or intonation drifts.
Where is the Pitbull Strings Mutant Series 5-String 45-130 Light Extra Long Bass Guitar Strings cheapest?
At Pitbull Strings, for $51.87, as of our latest check.
