The Skil PWR CORE 40 is a cordless string trimmer with a brushless 40V motor and a 16-inch cutting width. It uses a straight shaft and a power head design, so the motor unit can take other attachments in Skil's lineup. It weighs 9.6 lb, which is on the heavier side for a cordless trimmer. The best new price is $131.00 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, and three stores list it new.

Questions and answers

Is the Skil PWR CORE 40 trimmer worth it at $131?
At $131.00 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, it is a low entry price for a brushless 40V kit with battery and charger. That makes it a strong value if you want the attachment system or already own Skil 40V batteries.
How does it compare with a 20V trimmer?
The 40V brushless motor gives more torque and a wider 16-inch cut than most 20V trimmers. The trade-off is weight: 9.6 lb versus roughly 6 to 8 lb for typical 20V models.
How long does the battery last?
Runtime depends on grass thickness and trigger use. Expect roughly 30 to 45 minutes of light trimming on a charge, less in tall, wet grass.
What attachments fit the power head?
The power head takes Skil's PWR CORE 40 attachments, such as an edger, pole saw and blower. Check that the attachment is labeled for the 40V power head before buying.
What comes in the kit?
The kit includes the trimmer, a 40V PWR CORE battery and a charger. The cutting head uses a bump-feed line spool.
When is it cheapest?
Cordless outdoor tools usually drop in fall and around spring lawn-care sales. The current $131.00 at Walmart is already near the low end for a 40V brushless kit.
