Is the Yamaha Rydeen a good first drum kit?

Yes. It pairs real Yamaha hardware with poplar shells at an entry price, so a new drummer gets a stable kit that tunes and holds up. Budget for cymbals, stands, a throne and a pedal, which are not included.

What comes in the Rydeen 5-piece shell pack?

You get the 20" bass drum, 10" and 12" rack toms, 14" floor tom and 14" snare, plus Yamaha tom mounts. Cymbals, hardware stands, a throne and a bass pedal are sold separately.

Is the 20" bass drum big enough?

It is fine for practice, pop and rock at home or in small venues, and it takes less floor space than a 22". For very heavy music or unmiked gigs, a larger bass drum gives more low end.

Should I replace the stock heads?

Most owners do eventually. The included heads work for starting out, but a set of name-brand batter heads improves tone and durability noticeably.

When is the Rydeen cheapest?

The best new price seen is $519.99 at Musician's Friend as of November 7, 2026. Entry-level kits like this often drop during holiday sales and back-to-school promotions.
