Is the Yamaha TRBX174 good for a beginner?

Yes. It has a standard 34-inch scale, a comfortable 40 mm nut and simple passive electronics, which makes it a common first bass. It is also light enough for long practice sessions.

How does it compare to the TRBX304 or TRBX305?

The TRBX304 and TRBX305 add active electronics and more pickup options. The TRBX174 is passive and simpler, so it costs less and has fewer controls.

What strings does it come with?

It ships with alloy steel strings in .045 to .105 gauge. That is a standard light-to-medium set, so replacements are easy to find.

Is the TRBX174 a full-size bass?

Yes. It has a 34-inch scale length, the standard long scale for 4-string basses, and a solid mahogany body.

Listings show Black, Old Violin Sunburst, Red Metallic, Root Beer and Translucent Black. Availability varies by store.
