Is top entry good for older cats?

The lowered front opening gives senior cats a step-in route, but many older cats still dislike jumping. Watch your cat for a week before committing.

How often should I scoop it?

Daily. A hooded box holds odor in, so waste left inside gets worse than in an open pan.

Does it fit a large cat?

Yes. At 20.5 inches long it suits most large breeds, though very big Maine Coons may still look cramped.

Is it worth it over a cheaper open pan?

If litter tracking or dogs are a problem, yes. Otherwise a plain open pan is easier for cats to accept.

What comes in the box?

The box, the filtered hood lid, and a litter scoop. Check whether replacement filters are sold separately.

At $25.19 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026 it is near the bottom of its recent range, so waiting is unlikely to save much.

Our take on the Amazon Basics Large Top Entry

This is a hooded, top-entry cat litter box from Amazon Basics, sized for large cats at 20.5 by 14.75 by 14.38 inches. Cats jump in through the filtered top lid, and a lowered front opening gives older or less agile cats a second way in. High sides and the hood keep litter and spray contained. At $25.19 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range and is one of the cheapest hooded boxes of this size.
