Our take on the Balsam Hill 6.5 ft. Unlit Berkshire Mountain Fir Artificial Christmas Tree

The Balsam Hill Berkshire Mountain Fir is a 6.5-foot artificial Christmas tree with a fir-style silhouette and no built-in lights. It is aimed at shoppers who want a realistic, full tree and prefer to hang their own lights. The best new price is $449 at Balsam Hill as of November 5, 2026, and two stores list it new. That price sits at the top of its recent range, so it is not a markdown moment.

Pros

  • Balsam Hill's tree line is known for dense, full shaping

Cons
  • $449 is a high price for an unlit tree
  • You pay separately for lights and the time to string them
  • Bulky to store and assemble each season

Questions and answers

Is the Berkshire Mountain Fir worth $449?
It is worth it if you want a full, realistic tree you can light your own way and will reuse for many years. If you just want a lit tree at a lower price, a pre-lit model or a smaller tree makes more sense.
Does this tree come with lights?
No. This is the unlit version, so you supply your own strands. Balsam Hill also sells pre-lit versions of the same tree if you would rather not string lights.
How tall is it really?
It is listed at 6.5 feet, which suits rooms with standard 8-foot ceilings once you add a topper. Measure your space and tree stand before buying.
How does it compare with a pre-lit Berkshire Mountain Fir?
The pre-lit version saves you stringing time but costs more and locks you into its light color and count. The unlit tree is cheaper and more flexible.
When is the best time to buy it?
Artificial trees usually see their deepest discounts in late November and right after Christmas. As of November 5, 2026, the $449 price at Balsam Hill is at the high end of its recent range.
