The Bauer X-LS is a recreational ice skate built for learn-to-skate kids, not for travel-team hockey. It uses a 3D Poly Carb quarter package for ankle support, Anaform ankle pads, a microfiber liner and EVA foam footbed, and closes with Velcro straps instead of laces so young skaters can put them on themselves. The boot is not thermoformable, so the fit stays as it comes out of the box. At $39.99 at playitagainsports.com as of November 7, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with 4 stores pricing it new.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 197 ratings, buyers are largely happy with these as first skates for kids. The strap closure and ankle support come up as the main wins.
