Is this saw worth it for a homeowner?

Yes, if you cut firewood or clear limbs a few times a year and want gas power at a low price. It is not built for daily professional use.

Can I buy this in California?

No. It is listed as not CARB-compliant, so it cannot legally be sold or used in California.

What fuel mix does it take?

It is a 2-cycle engine, so it runs on gasoline mixed with 2-cycle oil, typically at 40:1 or 50:1 per the manual. Never run it on straight gas.

How does it compare with a 16- or 18-inch saw?

The 20-inch bar and 52cc engine cut larger trunks and buck faster than smaller homeowner saws. The trade-off is more weight and more fuel use.

What comes in the box?

Expect the powerhead, bar, chain and a tool kit for assembly and chain tensioning. Confirm the exact contents with the seller before ordering.

Gas chainsaws usually drop in price in late fall and winter, outside storm season. Check the price history before buying.

Our take on the Garvee 20 Inch 52cc Gas Chainsaw

The Garvee 20 Inch 52cc Gas Chainsaw is a rear-handle, 2-cycle gas saw with a 52cc engine rated at 3 HP and a 20-inch bar. It is aimed at residential work: felling small trees, bucking firewood and clearing storm damage. The semi-skip, semi-chisel chain favors fast cutting over smooth finish. It is not CARB-compliant, so it cannot be sold or registered for use in California.
