Our take on the IRIS USA Extra Large Open Top Cat Litter Box with Scatter Shield

The IRIS Extra Large Open Top Litter Box is a 30 x 20 x 14 inch high-sided pan with a curved front entrance and a scatter shield at the back. The tall walls and shield are meant to keep litter and spray inside, and the open top keeps it easy to scoop and easy for big or older cats to step into. It weighs about 4.4 pounds and ships with a litter scoop. At $22.79 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with 4 stores listing it new.

Questions and answers

Is the IRIS extra large litter box big enough for a Maine Coon?
At 30 x 20 inches with 14-inch walls, it fits most large domestic cats. Very large Maine Coons may still hang over the edge when turning, so measure your cat's length first.
Does the scatter shield really stop litter tracking?
It blocks litter kicked backward and spray aimed at the back wall. Litter kicked forward out of the curved entrance can still land on the floor.
Is an open box better than a hooded one for older cats?
For most older or arthritic cats, yes. There is no roof to duck under and the low curved front is easy to step over, though you give up odor and dust containment.
What comes in the box?
One black litter box with the scatter shield attached and one litter scoop. Litter is not included.
Is $22.79 a good price for this litter box?
It is at the low end of its recent range, and 4 stores list it new as of November 5, 2026. Given the size, anything near $23 is a fair buy.
