Is this drill worth it if I don't own Kobalt batteries?

Probably not. The tool-only listing means you would also pay for a 24V battery and charger, which pushes the real cost well past $136.49. Compare against a complete kit from another brand first.

What comes in the box?

The drill and an auxiliary handle. No battery, charger or other tools are included, so plan on buying Kobalt 24V power separately.

Does it take standard drill bits?

Yes. The 1/2-inch keyless chuck accepts standard round and hex-shank bits up to 1/2 inch.

Is 650 ft-lb of torque realistic?

No. That figure is far beyond any 24V cordless drill; comparable drills are rated in the hundreds of inch-pounds. Treat the number as a listing error and judge the drill on its brushless motor and 24V platform instead.

With only one store listing it new at $136.49 as of November 4, 2026, there is no cross-store competition to wait for. Watch for Kobalt battery-and-tool bundles instead, which often cost less than buying the pieces separately.

Our take on the Kobalt 24V Max Brushless Cordless Drill/Driver Kit

The Kobalt 24V Max Brushless Drill/Driver is a cordless drill built around Kobalt's 24V battery platform, with a brushless motor, a 1/2-inch keyless chuck and an auxiliary handle. Despite the "Kit" name, this listing is tool-only: no battery and no charger are included, so it only makes sense if you already own Kobalt 24V packs. The best new price is $136.49 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to shop around.
