Our take on the Modern Ember Raeford 40”

The Modern Ember Raeford 40" is an electric fireplace with a stone-finish mantel, built for indoor use. It puts out 5,200 BTU and is rated to heat up to 1,000 square feet, so it works as a supplemental heater for a large living room rather than a whole-home solution. It stands 39 inches high and is 11.5 inches deep, so it needs real floor space against a wall. The best new price is $599.99 at WoodArtSupply as of November 4, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no lower price to compare against right now.

Best forLiving rooms and family rooms up to about 1,000 square feetRenters or owners who want a fireplace look without venting or gas linesBuyers who want a mantel shelf for decor in one unitSupplemental heat in a room with an existing outlet nearby
Pros
  • Heats up to 1,000 square feet at 5,200 BTU
  • Stone finish and mantel give a built-in masonry look
  • Electric, so no chimney, vent or gas hookup
  • Mantel shelf adds display space
  • 40-inch width fits many wall layouts
Cons
  • Only one store lists it new, so price competition is thin
  • 11.5-inch depth takes up floor space
  • Electric heat of this size is supplemental, not a furnace replacement
  • Stone finish is heavy and may need two people to move
  • No widely published owner feedback to check before buying

Questions and answers

Is the Raeford 40" worth $599.99?
At $599.99 at WoodArtSupply as of November 4, 2026, you pay for the stone mantel look as much as the heat. If you mainly want 5,200 BTU of electric heat, a plainer unit usually costs less. If you want a finished fireplace centerpiece, the price is in line with mantel-style electric fireplaces.
How much space will it actually heat?
Modern Ember rates it for up to 1,000 square feet at 5,200 BTU. In practice that means a large room or open area as supplemental heat, not a substitute for a central heating system in cold climates.
Does it need venting or a gas line?
No. It is an electric indoor unit, so it needs only a standard outlet and no chimney, vent or gas connection. That makes it usable in apartments and rooms where a real fireplace is not an option.
How big is it and where can it go?
It is 39 inches high, 40 inches wide and 11.5 inches deep. Plan for floor space against a wall and keep clearance from curtains and other flammable items.
What comes in the box?
You get the fireplace unit with its stone-finish mantel. Check the listing for the remote and any hardware, since those details are not confirmed here.
When is it cheapest?
Only one store lists it new, so there is no cross-store price war to wait for. Watch for seasonal fireplace sales in fall and winter, and compare against the $599.99 WoodArtSupply price from November 4, 2026.
Where is the Modern Ember Raeford 40” cheapest?
At WoodArtSupply, for $599.99, as of our latest check.
