Is the Sony 70-350mm worth it?

For Sony APS-C shooters who need reach, yes. It is sharp, sealed and light for a 350mm zoom, and $809.95 at Newegg.com as of November 4, 2026 is near the bottom of its recent range.

Does it work on full-frame Sony bodies?

It is an APS-C lens, so full-frame cameras switch to crop mode and drop resolution. On an A7 body you get roughly 10-26MP depending on the model.

How is the autofocus for wildlife?

The XD linear motor focuses quickly and quietly, and it tracks moving subjects well on recent APS-C bodies. The f/6.3 maximum aperture at 350mm is the limiting factor in dim light.

The lens and a round bayonet lens hood. This listing is sold without a manufacturer warranty, so check the seller's return policy.

Is it better than the 55-210mm kit lens?

Yes, in reach, sharpness and build. The 70-350mm costs several times more, but it is the stronger choice for wildlife and sports.

Prices on this lens move with Sony promotions and holiday sales. The current $809.95 at Newegg.com is already near its recent low, so waiting may not save much.

About the Sony E 70–350mm F4.5–6.3 G OSS

Sold without manufacturer warranty Be prepared to capture stunning images with the E 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS Lens, a high-quality and advanced super-telephoto zoom lens designed for Sony cameras. Weighing only 22oz (625g), this lightweight lens offers a focal length of 70-350mm (105-525mm full-frame equivalent), making it an ideal choice for wildlife, sports, and portrait photography. The lens boasts a premium G Lens optical design, incorporating an aspherical element and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements. This precision optical design effectively suppresses aberration throughout the zoom range, including chromatic aberration that can be problematic at super-telephoto focal lengths. As a result, you can achieve sharp, clear image quality at all focal lengths, right out to the image edges.Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements work to eliminate axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration due to differences in magnification. This ensures maximum resolution and bokeh, leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration, while significantly reducing flare and ghosting.Experience fast, precise, and quiet autofocus with Sony's advanced XD (extreme Dynamic) linear motor technology, the same type used in G Master series lenses. This technology enables the lens to focus on and track even fast-moving subjects with outstanding speed and precision. When coupled with the advanced real-time AF capability of the latest compact APS-C bodies, you get a high-performance, easy-handling system for landscapes, wildlife, and more. The lens features a 7-blade circular aperture that contributes to gorgeous bokeh, creating impressive images where the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground and background. The unique design of the aperture blades keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops, resulting in smoother, more natural defocusing. The lens also includes a focus hold button that can be programmed for multiple functions, an AF/MF switch for instant auto/manual focus selection, and a zoom lock switch to prevent the lens from extending under its own weight during transportation. The lens is dust and moisture resistant, making it suitable for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures. Finally, the lens is equipped with high-performance Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, ensuring sharp, blur-free images with a wide range of subjects and handheld shooting. When used with ± series cameras that feature built-in image stabilization, 5-axis image stabilization becomes available. In summary, the E 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS Lens is a reliable and durable choice for photographers seeking to capture high-quality, professional-grade images.
