Is the CSP-255 worth it over the CSP-170?

The CSP-255 uses the newer GrandTouch-S action with escapement and linear graded hammers, which feels more like an acoustic than the older action. If touch matters most, the 255 is the better buy; if you mainly want the app features, the older model covers them.

Do I need the Smart Pianist app to use it?

No. You can play it as a piano without the app. The app is needed for Audio to Score, voice browsing and deeper settings, and it runs on iOS and Android devices.

How heavy is it and can two people move it?

It weighs 58 kg (about 127 lb) and comes as a cabinet with a furniture stand. Two people can shift it short distances, but moving it between rooms or floors is a job for movers.

Does it have Bluetooth and can it connect to headphones?

Yes, it has Bluetooth for the Smart Pianist app and a headphone jack for silent practice. Two headphone outputs let a teacher and student listen at once.

What comes in the box?

The piano, its furniture stand, the three-pedal unit, a power supply and a music rest. A bench is not included.

When is the best time to buy?

Clavinova prices move little through the year. Watch for holiday sales and dealer bundles that add a bench or headphones, and compare the total rather than the piano price alone.

Our take on the Yamaha CSP-255

The Yamaha CSP-255 is a Clavinova digital piano with 88 weighted GrandTouch-S keys, synthetic ivory and ebony tops, and three pedals in a polished ebony cabinet. Its Smart Pianist app adds Audio to Score, which turns songs in your library into sheet music, and it runs Yamaha's VRM resonance modeling on CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial samples. The furniture stand and sliding key cover make it a living-room instrument rather than a stage board. At 58 kg it is a fixed piece of furniture, so plan the room before delivery.
