Our take on the Avocado Organic Latex Mattress Topper

The Avocado Organic Latex Mattress Topper is a 2-inch layer of GOLS-certified Dunlop latex wrapped in GOTS organic cotton with a thin wool layer, about 2.75 inches total. It comes in Plush (soft, roughly 14-19 ILD) and Firm (medium-firm, roughly 20-25 ILD) versions, and is GREENGUARD Gold certified for low emissions. It is a heavy, natural-material topper aimed at softening a too-firm bed or adding pressure relief without memory foam. A queen weighs 37 lbs in Plush and 44 lbs in Firm, so it is not a light item to move.

Best forSleepers on a too-firm mattress who want pressure reliefBack and side sleepers who dislike memory foam heat and sinkShoppers avoiding synthetic foams and chemical odors
Couples who want a natural, breathable topper
Pros
  • GOLS organic Dunlop latex and GOTS organic cotton cover
  • GREENGUARD Gold certified for low VOC emissions
  • Two firmness levels so you can match your mattress
  • Latex is springy and breathable, not heat-trapping like memory foam
  • Wool layer adds a little cushioning and temperature regulation
Cons
  • Heavy for a topper: 37 to 44 lbs in queen
  • 2 inches of latex adds real height and can make sheets tight
  • Latex feel is bouncy and firm-ish even in Plush
  • Costs far more than a foam topper
  • Not machine washable; spot clean only

Questions and answers

Is the Avocado latex topper worth it?
It makes sense if your mattress is too firm and you want a natural, breathable fix. If you mainly want cheap cushioning, a foam topper costs much less.
Should I get Plush or Firm?
Choose Plush for side sleepers or a very hard bed; choose Firm for back and stomach sleepers or a bed that is only slightly too soft. Plush is still springy latex, not a deep sink.
Will it make my mattress too tall for sheets?
It adds about 2.75 inches, so deep-pocket sheets may be needed. Standard fitted sheets can pop off on thicker mattresses.
Does the latex topper sleep hot?
No. Dunlop latex is open and breathable, and the cotton cover and wool layer help wick moisture, so most owners find it cooler than memory foam.
Can I wash the cover?
The cover is spot clean only. Vacuum it occasionally and air it out; do not machine wash or tumble dry the latex.
When is it cheapest?
Avocado discounts toppers around major sales such as Black Friday and Memorial Day. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
