Our take on the Body-Solid Cast Iron Hex Dumbbells

Body-Solid's cast iron hex dumbbells are rubber-free, knurled-handle weights built for home and commercial gyms. The hexagonal heads stop them rolling and the raised silver numbers make picking the right weight quick. The listed best new price is $12.00 at Pure Craft Industries as of November 5, 2026, though that figure sits far below what cast iron dumbbells of this size normally cost, so check which weight and quantity that price covers before buying.

Best forHome gym owners building a full dumbbell rackCommercial gyms that need durable, roll-resistant weightsLifters who prefer knurled steel handles over rubber gripsExperienced lifters doing heavy pressing and rowing
Pros
  • Hexagonal heads stay put on the floor between sets
  • Knurled steel handles give a secure grip without rubber
  • Cast iron construction holds up to drops and daily abuse
  • Raised silver numbers make weight selection fast
  • No rubber coating means no rubber smell
Cons
  • Bare cast iron can chip paint and rust if left damp
  • Knurling is aggressive on bare hands for high-rep work
  • Dropping them on wood or tile floors can damage the floor
  • Bare metal is louder on the rack than rubber-coated dumbbells
  • Heavier pairs are bulky and awkward to rack

Questions and answers

Is $12.00 a realistic price for these dumbbells?
No. Cast iron dumbbells cost far more than $12.00 per pair at any normal weight. The $12.00 listing at Pure Craft Industries as of November 5, 2026 likely covers a single small item or a partial set, so confirm the weight and quantity before ordering.
What weights are available?
Body-Solid sells these in 5 lb increments across a wide range, from light pairs up to very heavy singles. Check the specific listing for the weight you want.
Do the handles have rubber grips?
No. The handles are knurled steel alloy, not rubber-coated. That gives a firm grip but feels rougher than rubber.
Will they damage my floor?
Bare cast iron can dent wood and crack tile if dropped. Use rubber mats under your workout area.
Are they good for a home gym?
Yes, if you have space for a rack and a mat. They are durable and don't roll, but they are loud and the finish can chip.
Can I use them for high-rep workouts?
The aggressive knurling can irritate bare hands during long sets. Gloves or chalk help.
Where is the Body-Solid Cast Iron Hex Dumbbells cheapest?
At Pure Craft Industries, for $12.00, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Body-Solid Cast Iron Hex Dumbbells?
7 stores we checked sell it, including Pure Craft Industries, Sports Unlimited, US Fitness Products, Fitness Supply, Gtech Fitness.
