Our take on the Dimplex Revillusion Built-In Electric Firebox

The Dimplex Revillusion is a built-in electric firebox that produces a flame effect behind a full glass panel, with a herringbone-style brick interior and no real fire. It installs into a framed opening or a mantel and runs on standard household current, so it needs no venting or gas line. The 30.6-inch model is the smallest of the four widths, and the $999 at eBay as of November 4, 2026 is the only new price we can confirm across the two stores listing it.

Best forLiving rooms and dens that want a fireplace look without a chimneyBasement and media-room builds with a framed openingRenters and condo owners who cannot add a gas or wood unitBuyers who want a flame they can run without heat
Pros
  • Realistic flame with a mirrored back and glowing log set
  • Runs with or without heat, so it works year-round
  • No venting, gas line or chimney required
  • Several interior finishes and four widths to fit an opening
  • Plug-in or hardwired installation
Cons
  • Electric heat output is modest, suited to a room rather than a house
  • Built-in design needs framing and a dedicated opening
  • Flame effect is convincing but not a real fire
  • Best price found is a single eBay listing, so stock and returns vary

Questions and answers

Is the Revillusion worth it over a cheaper electric insert?
If the look matters, yes. The mirrored back and full glass front read as a real firebox, which cheaper inserts rarely manage. If you mainly want heat, a basic heater costs far less.
Does it need a chimney or venting?
No. It is a sealed electric unit, so it needs only a framed opening and a power source. You can plug it in or hardwire it.
Can I run the flames without heat?
Yes. Flame-only operation is a standard feature, which is why many owners use it in summer as well.
Which width should I choose?
Match the rough opening in your framing plan. The line comes in 30.6, 36, 36.6 and 37.1 inches, so measure before ordering; the interior finish is separate from the width.
How much heat does it put out?
It is a supplemental heater, not a primary heat source. Expect it to take the chill off a room rather than warm a whole floor.
When is it cheapest?
The $999 at eBay as of November 4, 2026 is the lowest new price we can confirm. Electric fireboxes often dip around fall and holiday sales, so compare both stores before buying.
Where is the Dimplex Revillusion Built-In Electric Firebox cheapest?
