Is this a good first fretless bass?

Yes. The 34-inch scale and Jazz Bass neck shape feel familiar to fretted players, and the price is low for a fretless. Budget for a setup so the action and fingerboard suit your touch.

How is it different from the fretted Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass?

The main difference is the fretless Indian Laurel fingerboard; the body, neck and pickup layout are otherwise the same family. Expect the same feel but a very different playing technique.

What strings does it come with?

It ships with nickel-plated steel strings in .045-.105 gauges. Many fretless players switch to flatwounds or tapewounds for a rounder tone and less fingerboard wear.

Does it have fret lines or markers?

It has side dot markers and a fretless board without frets. Players who want visible position lines often add them or use the side dots.

The best new price seen is $529.99 at Guitar Center as of November 4, 2026. Fretless models are niche, so discounts tend to come with holiday sales or store clearance rather than frequent markdowns.
