Our take on the Kistler Magnesium 20th Anniversary Fishing Rod

The Kistler Magnesium 20th Anniversary is a 7'2" heavy-power casting rod built on Kistler's KC7X Korean carbon blank with a split cork grip. It is aimed at bass fishing with lures from 3/4 to 1 1/2 oz and line up to 65 lb braid, and Kistler rates it for both freshwater and shallow saltwater. The only new price found is $159.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, with no other new listings to compare against.

Pros
  • Heavy power with a fast taper for hook-setting leverage
  • Wide lure range of 3/4 to 1 1/2 oz covers jigs through big swimbaits
  • Split cork grip keeps weight down and feels traditional
  • Rated for both fresh and salt water
  • 7'2" length balances distance with close-quarters accuracy
Cons
  • Heavy power is too stiff for finesse or light treble-hook lures
  • Only one new listing found, so price competition is limited
  • Cork grips need care and can dry out or chip over time
  • No published rod weight to compare against rivals

Questions and answers

Is the Kistler Magnesium 20th Anniversary worth $159.99?
At $159.99 it sits in the mid-range for a carbon heavy-power casting rod. Kistler's KC7X blank and split cork grip are the main selling points. With only one new listing at that price, there is no cheaper new option to compare it to right now.
What lures does this rod handle best?
Kistler rates it for 3/4 to 1 1/2 oz, which suits jigs, chatterbaits, big Texas rigs and moderate swimbaits. It is a heavy-power fast-action rod, so it is not the pick for small crankbaits or drop shots.
Can I use it in saltwater?
Yes. Kistler lists it for saltwater and freshwater, including shallow flats. Rinse the rod and guides with fresh water after each salt trip to protect the finish and cork.
What line should I pair with it?
The rod is rated for 20 to 65 lb mono, fluorocarbon or braid, and the spec sheet also lists 15 to 20 lb braid for its intended bass use. For bass flipping and pitching, 50 to 65 lb braid fits the heavy power well.
What is in the box?
A single casting rod. Reel, line and lure are not included. Check the eBay listing for whether a rod sleeve or warranty card is included.
When is it cheapest?
The only new price found is $159.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026. Anniversary and limited-run rods like this tend to discount when a retailer clears stock, so watch for markdowns rather than expecting routine sales.
Where can I buy the Kistler Magnesium 20th Anniversary Fishing Rod?
10 stores we checked sell it, including eBay, Creek Life Lure Co., Eco Fishing Shop, Hit A Double, Kistler Rods.
