Is the Morimoto 9005 HID kit worth it over LED bulbs?

HID still gives a strong, even beam in projector housings, and this kit adds a 5-year warranty and selectable wattage. LED is instant-on and simpler, but cheap LED drop-ins often scatter light. Pick HID if your housing is designed for it.

Will this kit fit my car?

It fits vehicles that take a 9005 bulb and have room for the ballasts and harness. Projector housings give the best beam pattern; reflector housings can glare. Confirm your bulb type before ordering.

What is the difference between the 35W and 50W versions?

The 50W version is brighter but runs hotter and draws more current. The 35W version is closer to stock electrical load and is the safer pick for most daily drivers.

Which color temperature should I choose?

4K is warm white with the most usable light, 5K is neutral white, and 6K is cooler with a slight blue tint. 4K or 5K gives the best visibility in rain and fog.

You get two XB 2.0 ballasts, two 9005 XB HID bulbs, and either an HD relay or two standalone Canbus modules. A capacitor link is an optional accessory.

When is the price lowest?

Only one store lists it new at $253.60 as of November 5, 2026, so there is no competing price to wait for. Watch for Morimoto seasonal sales rather than store-to-store discounts.

Our take on the Morimoto Universal 9005 HID Upgrade Kit

The Morimoto 9005 HID Upgrade Kit is a plug-and-play xenon conversion for vehicles that use 9005 halogen bulbs. It pairs XB 2.0 ballasts with ceramic-base HID bulbs in 35W or 50W versions and 4K, 5K or 6K color temperatures, and Morimoto claims up to three times the output of stock halogens. The kit includes a bi-xenon harness, a relay or Canbus modules, and a 5-year warranty. The best new price is $253.60 at Morimoto Lighting as of November 5, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to shop around.

What reviewers say
