Is the Sentro 48 needle machine worth it?

Yes for beginners who want quick hats and scarves from chunky yarn. If you plan to knit fine yarn or large blankets, a 40-needle model or hand knitting may suit you better.

How does the 48 needle compare to the 40 needle Sentro?

The 48-needle cylinder makes wider tubes and takes thicker yarn, so it suits adult hats and chunky projects. The 40-needle version is better for finer yarn and smaller items like baby hats.

What yarn works best in it?

Medium to chunky wool or wool-blend yarn feeds most reliably. Very thin, slippery or fuzzy yarns tend to drop stitches.

What can I make with it?

Hats, socks, gloves, scarves, cushions and blanket panels. The adjustable flat-knit setting lets you work flat pieces as well as tubes.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, with adult supervision. The crank is manual and there is no power source, but the needle slots and moving parts can pinch small fingers.

When is the price lowest?

Craft-machine prices tend to dip around holiday sales and back-to-school periods. At $45.07 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, it is already near the bottom of its recent range.

Our take on the Sentro Knitting Machine 48 Needle Smart Loom

The Sentro 48 Needle Knitting Machine is a hand-cranked circular loom that knits tubes of yarn in minutes, aimed at beginners and crafters making hats, socks, scarves and gloves. The 48-needle cylinder sets it apart from the smaller 22- and 40-needle Sentro models: more needles mean thicker yarn and bigger projects, but also more effort per crank. It is plastic, weighs about 1.9 kg and runs on no power. At $45.07 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with 5 stores listing it new.
