Our take on the Fenwick Eagle Salmon/Steelhead Casting Rod

The Fenwick Eagle Salmon/Steelhead is a 9-foot graphite casting rod built for freshwater salmon and steelhead fishing. It carries a 4-10 lb line rating and a 1/32-1/4 oz lure range, with a moderate-fast action and full-length cork and TAC grips. The Eagle line is Fenwick's value tier, so this is an affordable way into a long, two-handed casting rod. At $99.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it is the best new price among the two stores listing it.

Pros
  • 9-foot length gives long casts and good line control
  • Graphite blank keeps weight down for its size
  • Moderate-fast action loads well for casting light lures
  • Cork and TAC full-length grips stay comfortable in wet, cold conditions
  • Low entry price for a dedicated salmon/steelhead rod
Cons
  • Value-tier components and guides, not Fenwick's higher-end builds
  • 4-10 lb line rating limits it to light line and small fish presentations
  • Casting reel seat means no spinning reel option
  • Long 9-foot blank is awkward in tight cover and hard to transport

Questions and answers

Is the Fenwick Eagle Salmon/Steelhead rod worth it?
For a budget 9-foot casting rod aimed at salmon and steelhead, yes. It is the cheapest way into a dedicated long casting rod from a known brand, though the guides and blank are not premium grade.
What reel and line should I pair with it?
Use a casting reel spooled with 4-10 lb line, matching the rod's rating. Lures from 1/32 to 1/4 oz fall in its sweet spot.
Is it a spinning or casting rod?
It is a casting rod, so it takes a baitcasting or level-wind reel. A spinning reel will not seat correctly.
What is the difference between the power ratings?
Fenwick lists this model across ultra light, medium, medium heavy and extra heavy powers. Match the power to your target: lighter powers for steelhead and small lures, heavier for big salmon.
When is the price lowest?
The best new price seen is $99.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026. Salmon and steelhead gear often discounts in late winter and early spring before the runs.
What is in the box?
The rod only. Reel, line and lures are sold separately.
What do buyers say about the Fenwick Eagle Salmon/Steelhead Casting Rod?
Rated 4.9 out of 5 from 8 ratings.
Where can I buy the Fenwick Eagle Salmon/Steelhead Casting Rod?
3 stores we checked sell it, including Fishermen's Source, eBay, Northwoods Wholesale Outlet.
