Is the J & D SH-1 II worth it?

At $293 at Music Store US as of November 4, 2026, it is a cheap way into a semi-hollow guitar. Expect to spend extra on a setup, and possibly on pickups, to get it playing well.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes, if you budget for a setup. The semi-hollow body is light and comfortable, and the humbuckers suit rock and blues. A solid-body starter guitar is usually more durable and easier to resell.

Will it feedback at high volume?

Semi-hollow bodies are more prone to feedback than solid bodies. It is fine at home and moderate stage volume, but loud high-gain playing can howl.

What strings does it take?

It is a standard 6-string electric guitar, so regular electric guitar strings fit. Most players start with a light or medium-light gauge and adjust to taste.

When is the best time to buy it?

Only one store lists it new at $293 as of November 4, 2026, so there is little price competition. Watch for holiday sales at that store rather than expecting a broad price drop.

Our take on the J & D SH-1 II Vintage Sunburst

The J & D SH-1 II is a budget 6-string semi-hollow electric guitar in a vintage sunburst finish. It pairs a semi-hollow body with two humbuckers, the layout most players want for blues, rock and jazz. At $293 at Music Store US as of November 4, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against. Treat it as an entry-level semi-hollow rather than a step up from a mid-priced guitar.
